The really interesting thing about all of those "military" based comedies, dating back from Phil Silvers in "Sergeant Bilko" through "Gomer Pyle USMC," McHale, F Troop, even "I Dream of Jeannie" if you want to count that one, is a certain level of irreverence for the people who were in those jobs. You really couldn't do a show like that anymore the way everyone thanks any military person for their service, etc. they've almost been raised to a level at which it is not permitted to make fun of them.
Now, we can say that we respect the jobs those people do, but they are still people doing a job, some of them better than others, some of them more successfully than others. In a way, it feels like Trump is expecting to be raised to a level, simply because of his office, that he cannot be criticized. I guess he forgot all of the things he said about the outgoing White House resident.
