Dreamwidth, So Far
Oct. 19th, 2017 02:48 pmI know there is resistance in moving from the old place over here. What I don't know is why.
I mean, I do know why. You are already at the old place and so are the people you read and who read you. And predictive text in your searchbox sends you right there. But I have to say, once you get over here, it's pretty much business as usual. You read through your friends posts (it's called your "reading page" instead of your "friendslist"). You comment. Post. It's all pretty much the same. It does feel slightly clunkier at first, and there are other different names for things. But you can figure this stuff out! And a couple of the people who deleted their journals at the old place are here and posting.
I didn't mention that I'm commenting on anything I can on any posts on DW. I'm here and I want to be here. This is the best way to establish that.
I need to begin exploring communities. I'm sure that's a good way to find active users here that I don't already know. But I know that's going to take some time and I'm kind of pressed because I have three writing projects going on all at once. I'll have to tell you about that when I get a free minute.
Meantime, come find me and add me to your reading page!

Date: 2017-10-19 08:50 pm (UTC)Also, no app????? That makes it slightly less user friendly.
I hope your transition is going gangbusters! I posted a picture of a clown at a teensy circus I attended two weeks ago...and you weren't there to see it. :(

Date: 2017-10-20 06:12 am (UTC)The traffic is very light, of course, but the difference is I have a couple of friends who deleted their journals at the other place and who are here. Compared to those self-contained mini communities where people are all still there and still posting. It makes it make some sense for them to remain.
Adding friends is, like most things here, clunkier. Filtering needs to be really helped if you want to make this work and that's especially true when you don't want to single out anyone for being considered a different level - I'm talking about the "subscriptions" and the "access" elements. People will know if they have full access to your DW or if they're getting the "edited" version. And that's kinda wrong. It means that someone can discover that you are filtering them out of some of your entries and that really shouldn't be. That's like drama waiting to happen.
I'm hoping that as more people start using DW, there will be more commentary about what's working, what's not, and what needs to be developed. Like I'm sure an app would be well on the way if everyone started using DW and mentioned this to them!
The clown post wasn't x-posted? Mm. :(
